BACK GROUND OF BLFARCIAL
BRIGHTER LIFE FOUNDATION AIDING RURAL COMMUNITIES IN LIBERIA (LFARCIL) is a non for profit and non-governmental health Organization established in 2024 but with its background from the Ebola outbreak in 2014 and Covid-19 pandemic in Liberia in 2019.
The BLFARCIL started with Mr. Humphrey M. Korto, a board satisfied Registered Nurse who is currently a Maternal and child Health consultant in the Nimba County Health system. During the EVD out Break, He witnessed Pregnant women died in hospitals, while some died at home due to lack of awareness and continuous home deliveries.
Despite the measures put in place by the Ministry of Health in Liberia for safe delivery, some TTM were seen and reported still conducting home deliveries in many rural communities where Ganta Glenyilue community is the worst in the Bain Garr health District in Nimba County. He observed few cases of maternal death in 2019 and 2023 that occurred in the community.
Adolescents, our younger generation who are expected to take lead and support Liberia are every now and then seen dropping from High schools and Universities as a result of early and Unplanned pregnancies due to lack of sexual education and awareness, increased drugs and alcohol consumptions among youthful population.
At Primary education level, school going kids were also seen experiencing recurrent of diarrhea, a common preventable disease only because of poor Hand hygiene practice in schools.
Meanwhile, in many rural communities in Liberia, disasters are common and on increase, where floods and fire Disasters are common and taking away many lives and properties. There are few counties in Liberia that are Lassa fever endemic where cases of Lassa are reported and the ministry of health has ensured all measures for awarenes and prevention, nevertheless, there are people in those regions who still deny the reality and fail to adhere to preventive measure.
Therefore, being a humanitarian, he volunteered and trained 45 adolescents on Good sexual reproduction practice, the dangers of drugs and Alcohol consumption, initiated proper hygiene practice for 5 primary schools in the GWR communities in the Bain Garr Education district, and Propagated awareness on the preventive measures of Disasters to Community residents in Nimba County in 2023.
His Voluntary team Trained 30 TTms on the Dangers of home delivery and the importance of facility delivery, in the Bain Garr Health District in 2021. As a master trainer in Helping Babies breath, he trained 25 midwives and 30 Nurses in the Nimba County health team in 2019
During the Covid-19 pandemic in Liberia, he also joined the team of Guys at the CTU to care for pregnant women and children voluntarily. Moreover, he organized a group of medical practitioners who used their expertise to conduct Covid 19 prevention messages at Churches, Market places and the communities in Ganta Nimba county Republic of Liberia.
During the Ebola Out Break in Liberia, He volunteered and got training to work at the Ebola treatment center to care mainly for pregnant women and children at the Ganta Ebola treatment unit in 2024.
